Globally, about 60% of companies block employee access to social media. The rationale for preventing employees from getting to Facebook, YouTube and other social sites is based on fear, uncertainty and doubt. The reasons for blocking don't stand up to scrutiny, but even more important, keeping employees from accessing social media denies the company the massive benefits they could accrue from tapping ethically and authentically into employees' social graphs.
